Early Morning Preparation
The day starts early at 6:00 AM when my phone buzzes with the daily schedule. After a quick breakfast and coffee, I head to the D & K Heating & Cooling warehouse to stock my service van with essential parts and supplies. Winter in Nebraska means we’re in peak heating season, and every minute counts.
First Call: Emergency Furnace Repair
By 7:30 AM, I’m headed to my first call in La Vista – an emergency repair for a family whose furnace stopped working overnight. The temperature outside is hovering around 20°F, making this a priority service call. After a thorough diagnostic check, I identify a failed ignitor and get their heat running again within the hour.
Mid-Morning: Scheduled Maintenance
The next stop takes me to Papillion for a routine furnace maintenance appointment. These preventive service calls are crucial for:
• Ensuring efficient operation
• Extending equipment life
• Preventing unexpected breakdowns
• Maintaining manufacturer warranties
Afternoon: New Installation
After lunch, I head to Omaha for a complete heating system installation. This is typically a team effort, requiring precise measurements, careful removal of old equipment, and meticulous installation of the new system. These jobs often take several hours but are rewarding when we can provide a family with reliable, efficient heating.
Late Afternoon: Final Service Calls
The day usually winds down with a couple more maintenance or repair calls. Between appointments, I complete service documentation, order parts for upcoming jobs, and stay in communication with our dispatch team.
What makes this work meaningful is knowing that every service call helps keep Nebraska families warm and comfortable during our harsh winters. While the days can be long, especially during peak season, there’s satisfaction in solving problems and helping our community stay cozy and safe.
No two days are exactly alike in HVAC service, but that’s what keeps the job interesting and rewarding. As the sun sets and I head back to base, I’m already preparing for tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities to serve our customers across the Omaha metro area.
Remember, regular maintenance is key to preventing those middle-of-the-night emergency calls. Stay warm, Nebraska!
